About me

About Aaron

I’ve been playing the guitar for 34 years, playing professionally for over 20, and teaching off and on since 2000.  Ever since I learned my first riff on the guitar it’s been a way of life. Early on in my playing most of the information I got was from my dad and brother who both play the guitar.  After a couple years I started taking lessons at a local music store which really helped me learn songs. When I went to college that’s where I really found what I was looking for. I ended up taking four guitar classes beginning guitar for non-majors, intermediate guitar for non-majors, jazz guitar 101, and jazz guitar 102.  The knowledge I gained taking those classes was invaluable for my playing to this day.

The first bands I played in were rock, blues, and country which I really enjoyed. Back then I actually played the electric guitar and sometimes do miss having one, but 20 years later I’ve still not gone back. In 2000 I left my hometown and moved to Charleston, SC where my musical journey took a major shift. I was teaching guitar at a local music store and one day in walked another teacher from Nashville, Tennessee. He showed me how to play the classic Flatt & Scruggs tune “Foggy Mountain Special” and I was floored and how awesome that sounded! I knew that was the kind of music I wanted to play and that’s exactly what I did. Since then I’ve played with dozens of bluegrass and acoustic bands as a side man, still have my own group, and now decided to give back a lifetime of knowledge to help you become a better guitar player!
